As a quick recap, Mel had no idea what we were up to for our adventure together on our Mystery Road Trip. Now you too, get to experience the same agony and anticipation of ‘where next’ that Mel did, in not only the days leading up to but also as we travelled from venue to venue. Check out Destination Number 1 of our Mystery Road Trip here if you haven’t already read about it.
Destination Number 2
Not far down the road from Kaikohe, you will find a turn off to Ngawha Springs. Mel had no idea what this meant, but was quick to point out the reminiscent odour of rotten eggs that we experienced in Rotorua (as is affectionately nicknamed Rotten-rua based on its smell). Yes, it did reek of Sulphur, because where we were goin was based on that sulphuric gas.
Wairere Pools. You pay $4 to soak as long as you like. The atmosphere is rustic and the people are friendly. Filled with locals and foreigners alike, people love to experience the healing waters. With pools of varying sizes and temperatures, you’re bound to find the one that is ‘just right’ for you. For us, it was “The Doctor” (all the pools are named). Tane Mahuta was just luke warm, while The Bulldog was a shocking 45 degrees.
The lady gave us the ‘hot tip’ to get straight in and put your feet up out of the water on the ledge, and that cools you off. Regardless, I still could not handle the heat.
|Ngawha Pools has quite a ‘rustic’ feel to it.|
|Enjoying the geo-thermal gooness.|
We enjoyed testing out different water temperatures for an hour or so before we made our way on to our last stop, destination #3 of our Mystery Road Trip!
